How to find your codice fiscale
By Codice Fiscale Pro Team · Published on
Where do you find your codice fiscale?
The most direct place is the health card. A separate codice fiscale card is no longer delivered: the code is part of the health card, as Informazione Fiscale (in Italian) explains. The card is sent by post, normally to the address of residence recorded in the tax registry, according to the Agenzia delle Entrate press release of 7 March 2025 (in Italian). The code also appears on documents you may already hold:
- payslips and the annual tax certificate (Certificazione Unica);
- employment, rental, utility and insurance contracts;
- medical prescriptions and test results;
- tax returns and payment receipts;
- the certificate of assignment of the code, if you kept one.
How do you recover it if the card is lost?
If the card was lost, stolen, damaged or never arrived, you can request a duplicate in the reserved area of the Agenzia delle Entrate website, where you can also check the delivery address. Access needs a digital identity such as SPID, CIE or CNS. Alternatively, form AA4/8 can be sent to an Agenzia office, also by email or certified email, with a copy of your identity document, as Lentepubblica.it (in Italian) summarises.
Can you calculate it instead of looking for it?
Yes, if you know surname, first name, date, sex and place of birth, the calculator builds the code. The result can differ from the code you were assigned because of a different spelling of your data or omocodia, which is why Pmi.it (in Italian) advises comparing it with an official document.
How do you check that the code you found is correct?
There are two levels. The first is formal: the code check on this site tests structure and check letter. The second is official: the Agenzia delle Entrate verification service (in Italian) compares the code with the tax registry. The differences are in the guide formal check and official verification.
What if you live abroad or have just arrived?
According to the Agenzia delle Entrate brochure “Codice fiscale stranieri” (in Italian), for non-residents the code is sent by ordinary mail to the tax domicile given in the request. Non-EU citizens who arrive in Italy get it from the immigration desk (provisional, numeric) or from the Questura, and the definitive one comes with the residence permit. People living abroad can also delegate someone in Italy, as the Italian Foreign Ministry (in Italian) says. See codice fiscale for foreign nationals.
Who should you give your codice fiscale to?
The codice fiscale is personal data. Give it to people with a concrete reason to ask, such as your employer, bank, doctor or public administration, and be wary of unexpected requests by email or message. This site does not record the code you type.
What if the code on the card is wrong?
Go to your municipality of residence or to an Agenzia delle Entrate office with a valid identity document, as Lentepubblica.it (in Italian) indicates. See also when the codice fiscale can change.

Frequently asked questions
Where is the codice fiscale on the health card?
It is printed on the tessera sanitaria. A separate paper or plastic card for the codice fiscale is no longer issued: the code is part of the health card data.
Can I get my codice fiscale if I lost the card?
Yes. Look in documents you already have, such as payslips, tax certificates, contracts or prescriptions. You can also ask for a duplicate card in the Agenzia delle Entrate online area, with a digital identity such as SPID, CIE or CNS.
Is a calculated code enough for a contract?
No. The calculation is an estimate. For a legal or tax document use the code printed on the card or issued by the Agenzia.
Can I find out someone else’s codice fiscale?
Ask the person, or use documents you hold with their consent. A code cannot be worked out without their personal details.
